WHY DID YOU TRAIN TO BECOME A SPECIALIST IN HEALTH?
I have always had an interest in people, and have always been more of a listener than a talker. When I was young I loved to read and listen to stories about different cultures and different places. Growing older it has continued to fascinate me how different the motivation and reasoning can be between different people, and trying to understand WHY people act and behave as they do is something I do more or less unconsciously.
When I was around 15 years old, I started to do more sports and exercise and began to develop an interest in the more physiological perspective of health and how our body develops and functions. This and the fact that I love food, both eating and cooking, has brought me to the combination of restaurant work and dietetics that my working life has evolved around until today.
Food is a vital part of life and has always been an important aspect of human health. It has also become a large source of pleasure in today’s society, however, many people struggle to find a balance between pleasure, health and feeling guilty for eating the “wrong things” because of stress, old habits, lack of knowledge, addiction, restriction and so on..
My motivation in work, whether it is creating a restaurant experience or treating a patient, is to find the best possible solution for each specific client, based on their needs and preferences. Basically, I like making people happy, and to me, that is also one of the most important aspects of being healthy.
WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT ZOLA?
I love the way ZOLA integrates all aspects of life in health and focuses on going back to a basic and playful approach to well-being. I think we all need to relax, enjoy and just live a bit more.
IN WHAT WAY ARE YOU THE SAME AS YOUR CHILDHOOD SELF?
I still go and stroll aimlessly in the forest whenever I’m upset or struggling with something in life.
WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR MOST DEFINING MOMENTS IN LIFE?
Studying as an exchange student in the US when I was 16. Going somewhere new where no one knew who I was or where I came from made me really look into myself and find what I liked rather than what people expected me to like and to be like.
WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF BEING YOU?
The combination of loving food and being outside in nature. It means I can spend long days in the mountains and then eat lots and lots of good food and snacks (and drink a few beers) and it’s actually just really good for me! I’m also really proud of my body that most of the time just works even though I don’t always let it rest enough.
WORK IS GREAT AND EVERYTHING, BUT WHAT REALLY GETS YOU IN THE ZONE?
Skiing on a good powder day! And cooking with great music to sing along with.
WHAT ARE 4 THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Food! Sunshine, physical activity in nature and hugs.
WHEN WAS THE TIME YOU FELT MOST AT YOUR ZENITH?
My first winter in Chamonix. I had just finished secondary school (I was proud of my results and SO happy it was over), got a job at a bar where I learned to work hard and efficiently and was living on my own for the first time. I realised there was a whole other level of skiing than what I’d known before, and my passion for the mountains started to develop.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE HERO’S JOURNEY?
Robin Hood, who sees all men as equal with an equal right to a good life. He lives in the woods, helps and protects the unfortunate from the greed of the more fortunate ones. And he likes to sing and drink beer!
WHICH SONG GETS YOU IN THE ZONE EVERY TIME?
The Pointer Sisters – I’m so excited
IF YOU COULD HAVE A DINNER PARTY WITH ANY FOUR PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD YOU INVITE?
Anthony Bourdain, Cleopatra, Mahatma Gandhi and Emma Watson.
WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO MASTER IN LIFE?
I’m also trying to accept that I don’t have to be the master of everything I do and not to be disappointed if I am not the best of the best.
WHERE IS THE MOST ADVENTUROUS PLACE YOU’VE EVER BEEN?
WHAT ARE YOUR SUPER-POWERS?
Figuring out your deepest secrets…
